Times Tables Club was initiated in September 2011. It has been very successful so far.
Multiplication facts are taught at school but for some children it takes longer to commit these facts to memory which in turn slows them down when tackling more complex calculations later on. When these facts start to stick it can boost confidence considerably as well as being a valuable life skill as an adult.
Times Table Club uses a variety of ways to help children to learn these facts through games with the emphasis on enjoyment. When they come to the club, children have already had a long day at school so it is important that they feel relaxed but motivated.
Children learn through
Board games
Loop games
Bingo
Timed tables tracks (to beat their own record)
Computer games
Coded colouring sheets
Tables CD and Times Tables books
There is an element of choice of activity but they are pitched at your child's level depending on which times table they are focusing on. The club is informal but each child has a times table they may need to consolidate and a target times table in order that they develop. Each child also gets an opportunity to have some focused teaching and assessment time with the teacher.
